Diaspora Community Services

Founded in 1981, Diaspora Community Services (DCS) is a Brooklyn-based multi-service and multi-cultural 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing comprehensive support to low income residents, immigrants, the chronically ill, and youth. Our programs and services address the root causes of the adversity our clients face, and empowering low income families and individuals to overcome obstacles to their well-being and self-sufficiency. From resettling Haitian refugees in the late 1980s to addressing the onset of the HIV crisis in 1990, DCS has focused on ensuring clients have access to much needed benefits, counseling, education, housing and referrals to our many qualified organizational partners.  

 

Programs and Services

Current program services include:

  • Homeless shelters for young mothers and LGBTQ+

  • Youth empowerment programs

  • Access to healthcare: medical benefits assistance, Uninsured Care Program

  • Free STI, Hepatitis C, and HIV testing and prevention

  • Condom Distribution

  • Women centered HIV support and prevention

  • Sexual Assault Support

  • Substance Abuse prevention 

 

Mission

Diaspora Community Services is a social support service agency that empowers families and individuals to maximize their abilities to succeed through culturally sensitive health promotion, family support services and advocacy.
